Abstract

This article analyzes women's political representation in the Legislative Assembly of Minas Gerais (ALMG) between 1987 and 2024, based on the investigation of the biographical profiles of state deputies and their legislative production. Anchored in the theory of political representation, with an emphasis on descriptive and substantive dimensions, the study seeks to answer: who are the women elected to the ALMG, and which themes guide their legislative proposals? The results indicate a growing trend in the number of female parliamentarians. The predominant biographical profile consists of deputies born in Minas Gerais, elected for their first term, mostly between the ages of 41–47 and 55–61, affiliated with the Partido dos Trabalhadores (PT), active in the field of education, with union ties and prior experience as city council members. The thematic-categorical analysis of 3,347 legislative proposals reveals that, although symbolic proposals are concentrated, legislative production has expanded, with a focus on topics such as care politics, public administration, and consumer rights. Gender-related issues represent a small portion of the proposals, although recent legislatures show an increase in volume and thematic diversity in this area. By deepening these aspects, the article aims to contribute to the debate on women's political representation, especially in subnational legislative contexts.
