This paper analyzes the main changes introduced in the Brazilian tax system with the approval of Constitutional Amendment No. 132 in the National Congress on December
20, 2023. To this end, it carries out a critical reading of these changes, seeking to demonstrate that, contrary to what the government, the country's economic and political
leaders and even a good part of the media defend, the tax reform, which was restricted, in fact, to a reform on consumption taxation, is far from removing the main distortions of the system and contributing, in fact, to open the way for economic growth and promote its reunion with fiscal justice.
